Insel Island Art   House

A MODERNIST UTOPIA ON THE  SONOMA COAST

Different from traditional galleries, Insel Island believes in the power of living with art. Living with art enriches our life by bringing beauty, inspiration, and a sense of emotional connection to the world around us.

This art vacation home is the beginning of our dream. Here, we have carefully selected works from artists, high-quality furniture, and handcrafted potteries around the world, hoping to give you a truly unique vacation experience.

The house welcomes guests with a quote from Zhuang Zhou, one of the most influential philosophers in Chinese history.  The complete sentence is “体尽无穷,而游无朕”. The direct translation is: To immerse oneself in the experience of truth without end and to travel freely without leaving a trace.

This phrase expresses the idea of seeking knowledge and truth through continuous and focused exploration, while also embracing a sense of freedom and spontaneity in one's journey. It encourages a mindset of lifelong learning, discovery, and an appreciation for the beauty and mystery of the world.

TEA & GALLERY ROOM

This is a tea room as well as a gallery room. Every 2-3 months, we curate a mini exhibition in this room. The design of the tatami mats, tea table, and armrests are all directly inspired by ancient China, which can still be seen in ancient paintings of Chinese literati drinking tea. The new "Feitian tea chair" is inspired by the flying angels of Dunhuang, with elegant curves that conform to ergonomics. The teapot is from Yixing, China, and is handcrafted by an artist to provide the best aroma from the tea leaves.

In the tea room and the living room, you can find a collection of unglazed Wood-fired Potteries.  They are handmade by Pipphy's Curiosities.

These one-of-a-kind potteries embrace the beauty of imperfection, transience, and simplicity. The color of the pottery is naturally derived from the wood ash that falls on it during the firing process.

You can use these pottery pieces with your creativity, integrating them into your beautiful life in any way you like.
